Gold Medal Products Double for Addy’s Butchers

J Brindon Addy Butchers, of Hade Edge, Holmfirth, has won two gold awards in a national product evaluation event.

One fell to Addy’s Nookie Pie, a steak and ale pie made with locally brewed Nook Oat Stout from The Nook Brewhouse, based at The Rose & Crown pub in Holmfirth, the second for the shop’s home-made sausage rolls.

More than 400 products from Q Guild members across the UK were assessed by an independent panel of judges, made up of both industry experts and lay judges.

For good measure, Addy’s also picked up silver awards for its traditional pork pies and mince and onion pasties.

Brindon Addy, who is north-east regional chairman and national vice-chairman of the Q Guild, the UK’s top independent butchers’ organisation, established a trading partership with Nook Brewhouse earlier this year when introducing three new products containing its beers. It was the first foray into the meat trades competition arena for the Nookie Pie.

Brindon said: “As a Q Guild member, we regard ourselves as among Britain’s best butchers and these awards prove that we have the products to match. Winning a Smithfield Award definitely adds value and prestige to our business as a whole.”
