Win a Tiger Moth Flight Experience

In 2014 The Nook Brewhouse launched a new bottled ale created in conjunction with Tiger Moth Experience and the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund – Tiger Moth Porter 4.2%abv.

Inspired by the brave men and women who have helped protect our skies for nearly a century and the noble de Havilland Tiger Moth bi-plane, which was used to train many frontline pilots during the first half of the 20th century. Tiger Moth Porter 4.2 is a rich and robust dark ale with a sweet toffee and caramel malt character balanced with blackcurrant and winter berry flavours from British Bramling Cross hops.

This year to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the RAF.  The Nook Brewhouse have released special bottles of Tiger Moth Porter and in conjunction with Tiger Moth Experience we are are offering one lucky winner the chance to take a flight experience in a working Tiger Moth Biplane.

For the chance to win a Tiger Moth Flight Experience entrants must simply scan the code on special bottles of Tiger Moth Porter which will take them to the competition web site, where they can fill in their details and answer a simple question.

All the correct answers will be put into a hat and one lucky blighter will win a Tiger Moth flight experience. After a pre-flight briefing the winner take to the skies above the beautiful Yorkshire countryside. During their time in the air they have the chance to take the controls of the aircraft (subject to weather conditions) and once back on terra firma will also be presented with a presentation pack, including certificate, pin badge and goggles and your very own Log Book.

Ian Roberts Director of The Nook Brewhouse said “Our partnership with the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund and Tiger Moth Experience has been a great experience for us, we’ve been able to meet some fantastic people and help the RABF in the great work they do.  We hope this competition will help make more people aware of the charity and its work helping RAF service men and women.”

    NOO1K

    Spring Beer Festival

    March 23rd – 25th

In July 2009 we mashed in our first ever brew of Nook Brewhouse ale, it was our Yorks Bitter. It was put on the bar in the Nook and every last drop of the nearly 1500 pint was guzzled in no time.

Now nearly nine years and over one million pints later the Nook Brewhouse will be producing it’s 1000th brew.

To celebrate this momentous achievement we will be holding our Spring beer festival 23rd-25th March. We will be debuting beer from this special brew, named NOO1k. There will be just one cask available and when that gone it’s gone!  Don’t worry though there will be plenty of other great beers from around the North to sup.

The rest of the NOO1k brew is going to be safely stored away to mature before it’s packaged in special limited edition bottles later in the year.  These bottles will be released in time for Christmas so add it to your wish list now.

Over the weekend there will be plenty of cellar conditioned, hand pulled real ales will be on offer from across the North… plus a selection of local ciders and perries.

There will be fine Yorkshire food and great entertainment too.

Pennine Light 500ml bottles now available

Pennine Light 3.5%abv an official beer of The Pennine Way is now available in 500ml bottles

Pennine Light is part of an on-going project to support The Pennine Way National trail which runs right passed our Holmfirth brewery in the heart of the Pennines.

When we were asked to brew an official beer of the Pennine Way we turned to a style of beer that was, at one time synonymous with the mill and farming towns of the Southern Pennines. Pennine Light Mild.

With Pennine Light 3.5% abv we have created a pale and refreshing “Modern Mild” for the 21st century.  A low gravity beer with a balance of sweetness and bitter hop character which make it very refreshing and exceptionally quaffable.

The Nook Brewhouse creates an official beer of the Pennine Way

We are please to reveal that the Nook Brewhouse has been selected to brew a brand new ale as an official beer of The Pennine Way.

Sheila Sutton from The Nook Brewhouse said: “Our location and the provenance of our products is something we hold at the core of our business. So we turned to a style of beer that at one time was synonymous will the mill and farming towns of the southern Pennines, Pennine Light Mild.  A low gravity beer with a balance of sweetness and bitter hop character which make it very refreshing and very quaffable.”

“It was this combination that made it the ideal thirst quencher for the local population who worked in the hard, physical jobs that kept the industrial and agricultural economies of the region going through the late 19th and early 20th centuries.”

“With Pennine Light 3.5%abv we have created a “Modern Mild” for the 21st century that can be enjoyed by everyone from walkers after a long day on the trail to city workers looking for a beer to wet their whistle after a long day in the office.”

The beer was officially launched at The Old Nags Head in Edale, Derbyshire (the official starting point on the trail on 30th June.  A hardy group climbed to the summit of Kinder Scout, one of the Pennine most iconic peaks and return to the pub to slake their thirst with several pints of Pennine Light.

Pennine Light 3.5%abv will be available in cask to outlets along the length of the Pennine Way but also to other pubs, bars, restaurants and hotels within our direct delivery areas including Manchester, Leeds, Bradford and Sheffield.

Stockists will be listed as part of the trail’s interactive map online at www.nationaltrail.co.uk/pennine-way/plan when they have taken delivery of the official ales. The maintenance of the trail will benefit from a financial contribution from each pint or bottle that is sold.

  • Gold for Blond

    Gold for Blond

SIBA_NE_14_132We are pleased to announce that The Nook Brewhouse has scooped 4 awards, including 2 gold, at the prestigious SIBA North East Beer competition in York.

Blond  (4.5%ABV); a distinctive blond coloured ale with a smooth malt base and citrus overtones, came top in the Premium Bitters and Bottled Gold Beers categories.

The bottled version also secured a bronze overall against bottled beers produced by breweries from across Yorkshire and the North East. A second Bronze was awarded to the brewery’s Grumpy Mule Breakfast Stout (5.2%ABV), in the Speciality ales category. The smooth, rich stout is infused with freshly ground coffee produced by Meltham based coffee roasters Grumpy Mule.

Judging took place at the York Beer and Cider Festival held at York Knavesmire on 17th September.   Competition was fierce with the 71 judges sampling over 176 cask beers and 137 different bottled beers before the awards were handed out.

The Nook Brewhouse is run by brother and sister team Ian Roberts and Sheila Sutton whose family have run the celebrated Nook pub for 50 years.  Well known as a real ale destination, The Nook has appeared in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide for over 35 years and they began brewing their own beers in 2009.

Sheila Sutton said: “We are delighted that Blond, our flagship beer, has gained this recognition in both cask and bottle.  Since we started brewing it in 2009 it has been rarely been off the bars in our two brewery taps in Holmfirth and it has also proved very popular further afield with beer lovers throughout the country.”

Grumpy Mule Breakfast Stout will be a regular feature on the bar in the pair’s newest venture The Tap House.  The revamp of one of one of their existing sites in Holmfirth is due to open in October and will focus on food created with local produce paired with the ales brewed on site including some of the brewery’s other speciality beers such as Elderflower Blond and Cherry Stout.

If you would like to stock Blond in cask or bottle or Grumpy Mule in cask please contact The Brewhouse Office for more information.
